Education has always been close to my heart — it’s the foundation of opportunity and progress. But in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), I’ve seen firsthand how systemic challenges can hold back even the most determined teachers and students. But how do we know what’s working and what needs to change? This is where data-driven insights become essential, offering a roadmap to improving and scaling these efforts so every child can access quality education.
The Role of Data in Education
Data is not just about numbers; it tells the story of what is working and what needs improvement. Quantitative data — the numbers — shows us the “what.” For example, how many students improved their literacy scores, or how many teachers completed a training program? On the other hand, qualitative data — the stories and feedback — helps us understand the “why.” It reveals the reasons behind the numbers, like why a particular teaching method resonates or why digital tools aren’t fully utilized.
